TULUM — Driving under the influence of alcohol once again caused havoc on Federal Highway 307 after a motorist knocked down a utility pole belonging to the Federal Electricity Commission (CFE) near Chemuyil during the early hours of Tuesday.

The accident occurred shortly after midnight. According to the emergency services report, a Ron 700 model pickup truck with license plate TB-5847-M collided with a pole and ended up on the central median. The vehicle was found abandoned, with several beer cans inside, indicating that the driver was likely in a state of intoxication and subsequently fled the scene.

Authorities deployed an operation at the location: Civil Protection cordoned off the area to prevent risks from downed cables and collapsed infrastructure, while CFE personnel immediately began work to restore electrical service. The National Guard and state police were notified of the events and initiated a corresponding investigation.

Although no injuries were reported, the accident highlights the risk posed by drivers who operate vehicles under the influence of alcohol. This type of behavior has become a constant concern on the highways of Quintana Roo, where authorities have insisted on the importance of road responsibility to protect the lives of drivers and pedestrians.
