Cancún, Mexico — A one-year-and-six-month-old girl, identified by the last names Pérez Pérez, died on Thursday night at the Jesús Kumate Rodríguez General Hospital after being hospitalized for severe malnutrition, acute anemia, and associated infections.
Emergency Intervention and Medical Efforts
According to a statement from the Municipal Secretariat of Citizen Security and Transit (SMSCyT) of Benito Juárez, the child had been urgently transported to the hospital by the Specialized Group for Attention to Family and Gender Violence (GEAVIG) and the municipal DIF (Integral Family Development) system after her condition was reported as critical.
The mother was detained and placed under custody for the crime of disobedience, while the child was placed under institutional care. Despite medical efforts—including life support protocols, blood transfusions, and controlled feeding via a feeding tube—the girl did not survive.
Authorities Collaborate on Investigation
The SMSCyT confirmed it is collaborating with the State Attorney General’s Office (FGE) to advance the investigation and determine accountability.
