Cozumel, Quintana Roo — The Municipal Government of Cozumel, led by Mayor José Luis Chacón Méndez, in coordination with the "Vive tu Pasión" Foundation and private sector partners, inaugurated the Third International Champions Meeting "Vive tu Pasión" as part of its commitment to promoting sports and the holistic development of children.

Fostering Values Through Sports

Representing Mayor Chacón, First Councilor Lenin Alejandro Mattar Pérez emphasized that such events foster fundamental values like respect, discipline, and friendship. "Tennis is often called 'the white sport' for the respect it embodies. We hope more participants join and that future talents emerge to elevate Cozumel’s name. Mayor Chacón’s directive is clear: to support and promote sports on the island," he stated.

Francisco Manuel Muñoz Carrillo, President of the "Vive tu Pasión" Foundation, explained that the event aims to provide opportunities for children and youth in vulnerable situations through sports like tennis, pickleball, and paddle tennis. "Many of these children had never seen the ocean or boarded a plane. Here, they receive transportation, meals, lodging, excursions, medals, and diplomas—all as gifts thanks to our sponsors," he shared.

A Week of Sports and Opportunity

From July 27 to August 3, children aged 10 to 15 from Pachuca, Tlaxcala, Puebla, San Luis Potosí, and Cozumel are participating in the event. The foundation, established in 2015 after its founder’s accident, has benefited over 100 children who now engage in sports and receive academic support across Mexico.

Municipal officials in attendance included General Secretary Margarita del Rosario Vázquez Barrios, Municipal Comptroller Fidencio Balam Puc, Fifth Councilor Javier Ovidio Vázquez López, and Nadia Medina Becerril, Director of the Medical Area of the Sports Department, alongside children participating in the summer camp "Tierra de Campeones."

The Municipal Government reaffirmed its commitment to the sports and social development of Cozumel’s youth, collaborating with civil society and private initiatives to build a future with greater opportunities.
