Teen Cleared in Dad’s Death After Defending Stepmom

Playa del Carmen, Quintana Roo — The Attorney General of Quintana Roo, Raciel López Salazar, has confirmed that the case involving a minor in the death of his father will not be investigated as parricide. Authorities determined the teenager acted in self-defense and in defense of his stepmother during a violent domestic incident.

Details of the Incident

The events unfolded on the afternoon of July 21 in the Paseos de Xcacel neighborhood of Playa del Carmen. Neighbors alerted emergency services via 911 after witnessing a violent family dispute and reporting a man lying in the street with stab wounds.

Upon arrival, Red Cross paramedics found the victim with severe injuries to his throat. Despite attempts to revive him, the man showed no signs of life.

The Minor’s Account

According to the Attorney General’s statement, the teenager was preparing food when he heard screams from another room. Upon investigating, he saw his biological father brutally assaulting his stepmother. The father, reportedly intoxicated, turned his aggression toward the minor when he intervened.

During the ensuing struggle, both fell to the ground, and the knife the minor was holding accidentally pierced the father’s neck. Despite his injury, the man managed to stumble outside seeking help but collapsed moments later.

The minor remained at the scene and did not attempt to flee. He was later handed over to authorities.

Legal Resolution

The Specialized Prosecutor’s Office for Juvenile Justice concluded there was no intent to kill, leading to the minor’s release under the legal classification of “exclusion of criminal liability.” The teenager is now under family supervision and receiving psychological support.
