Chetumal, Quintana Roo — The Belizean Consulate in Quintana Roo has clarified that Belizean citizens are not required to pay fees to expedite administrative procedures for obtaining the Regional Visitor Card (TVR). Consul José Luis Kelly confirmed that the process, managed by immigration authorities at the Subteniente López checkpoint, is entirely free of charge.
No Payment Required for Processing
Kelly emphasized that all procedures for the TVR are free and must adhere to standard administrative timelines. He denied the existence of Belizean intermediaries who claim to “assist” with the process for a fee, stating that such claims are false.
Increased Cooperation from Mexican Authorities
The honorary consul of Belize in Quintana Roo noted that Mexican immigration officials at Subteniente López have increased staffing to streamline the TVR issuance process. “Following discussions with Mexican migration authorities, additional personnel have been assigned to assist our nationals and increase the daily issuance of cards,” Kelly said. “We categorically deny that payments to Belizean intermediaries can expedite the process.”
Reports of Intermediaries Charging Fees
Despite the consulate’s statement, social media posts on Facebook have circulated offers from so-called “facilitators” claiming to expedite TVR processing for a fee of approximately 10 Belizean dollars (around $5 USD). These individuals promise to bypass lines and reduce wait times, though authorities insist such services are illegitimate.
The consulate urges Belizean citizens to complete the process directly through official channels and report any attempts to solicit payments for the TVR.
