2 Men Get 37 Years for Brutal Playa del Carmen Murder

Playa del Carmen, Mexico — A trial judge has sentenced two young men to 37 years and 6 months in prison for their involvement in the brutal homicide of Leandro, a former manager of a flower shop specializing in floral arrangements in Playa del Carmen. The convicted individuals, Jobín Enrique Ramírez, alias El Jobín, 23, and David Mauricio Sandy Hernández, alias El Joker, 31, were found guilty of aggravated homicide.

Details of the Crime

The case was disclosed by the State Attorney General, Raciel López Salazar, who confirmed that the perpetrators were part of a criminal group engaged in drug trafficking and extortion in the area.

According to investigations, the assailants instructed the victim to travel to a residence where other individuals, including a woman, were waiting. Upon arrival, Leandro was forcibly taken into a palapa (a thatched-roof structure), where he was severely beaten until unconscious, allegedly under the woman’s orders.

The murder was completed the following day when El Jobín and El Joker violently killed the victim. The perpetrators then dismembered the body using machetes and knives, placed the remains in plastic bags, and transported them in a private vehicle before abandoning them on a dirt road.

The crime sparked widespread outrage in Playa del Carmen due to its extreme brutality and the fact that the victim had no criminal record or ties to organized crime.

The State Attorney General’s Office presented substantial evidence proving the direct involvement of the convicted men, leading to the imposition of what authorities described as an exemplary sentence.

The case underscores ongoing concerns about violent crime in the region and the operations of organized criminal groups.
