Bus Runs Red Light, Causes Major Crash in Cancún

Cancún, Mexico — A collision involving a state-operated passenger bus, a tourist transport vehicle, and a private Jeep left eight people injured, including one with a suspected traumatic brain injury, after the bus driver allegedly ran a red light Sunday morning. The incident occurred at the intersection of Miguel Hidalgo Avenue (Route 5) and Lombardo Toledano Avenue in Cancún’s Supermanzana 73.

Details of the Collision

At approximately 8:00 a.m., emergency responders arrived at the scene near the Blanca Flor restaurant, where a Transporte Terrestre Estatal (TTE) bus, license plate TTE222, had disregarded a traffic signal. The bus, driven by 45-year-old José Luis C.V. from Tabasco, was struck on its side by a tourist transport vehicle operated by 56-year-old Macario S.B.

The impact caused the bus to spin and collide with a Jeep driven by 52-year-old Rubén Alejandro R.C. before finally crashing into a traffic signal pole.
