Cancún Beaches Win 2025 Blue Flag for Sustainability

Cancún, Mexico — The beaches of Cancún have once again earned international acclaim, receiving the coveted Blue Flag certification for 2025. A total of 49 flags were awarded to the region, reinforcing its status as a leader in sustainable tourism and environmental stewardship.

Official Ceremony Marks Achievement

The formal recognition ceremony was presided over by Quintana Roo Governor Mara Lezama and Cancún Mayor Ana Paty Peralta. The awards highlight the coordinated efforts between federal, state, and municipal governments, as well as private sector collaboration, to maintain world-class standards for visitors.

Governor Lezama emphasized the significance of the achievement, stating, "This recognition reflects our commitment to sustainability and excellence in tourism. Cancún continues to set the benchmark for environmental responsibility."

What Is the Blue Flag Certification?

The Blue Flag is an international distinction granted by the Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE) to beaches, marinas, and boats that meet 33 stringent criteria across four categories:

  • Environmental Education
  • Water Quality
  • Environmental Management
  • Safety and Services

Cancún secured the First Place nationally for Blue Flag-certified establishments and the First Place internationally for recognized vessels.

Recognized Beaches and Establishments

Of the 49 awards, 47 were renewals from previous years, while two new distinctions were granted to Cancún Sailing boats. The following Cancún beaches and hotels now proudly display the Blue Flag:

Beaches:

  • Del Niño
  • Perlas
  • Chacmool
  • Marlin
  • Ballenas
  • Delfines
  • Coral

Hotels:

  • Fiesta Americana Condesa
  • Live Aqua
  • Iberostar
  • Flamingo

The recognition underscores Cancún’s dedication to maintaining pristine conditions for both tourists and residents. Mayor Peralta remarked, "These awards are a testament to our ongoing efforts to provide safe, clean, and sustainable spaces for all who visit our paradise."

With this achievement, Cancún solidifies its reputation as a premier global destination, balancing tourism growth with environmental preservation.
