Playa del Carmen, Quintana Roo — The Quintana Roo State Prosecutor’s Office (FGE) reported significant progress in addressing crimes related to domestic violence and failure to pay child support, securing a conviction and charging six additional individuals across multiple municipalities.
Three-Year Prison Sentence for Child Support Evasion
A judge handed down a three-year prison sentence to Irving Eduardo Martín Velázquez for failing to provide child support for his three minor daughters since July 2018. The court also ordered him to pay 690,541.66 pesos in restitution, along with 15,000 pesos in moral damages to each of the affected minors.
Six Individuals Charged Across Multiple Municipalities
In separate cases, six individuals were formally charged in the municipalities of Felipe Carrillo Puerto, Othón P. Blanco, and Playa del Carmen for alleged domestic violence or failure to meet child support obligations.
Felipe Carrillo Puerto Cases
- Pedro “N” was charged for allegedly verbally assaulting and threatening his wife with a knife in the town of Emiliano Zapata.
- Manuel Jesús “N” faces charges for unpaid child support since November 2024, affecting his two children.
Othón P. Blanco Cases
- Omar David “N” and Pedro “N” were charged with domestic violence in the Solidaridad neighborhood.
- Pablo Isaac “N” was accused of physically assaulting his former partner.
Playa del Carmen Case
- Rigoberto “N” was charged for physical and verbal abuse against his partner in the 28 de Julio neighborhood.
Additional Arrest for Unpaid Child Support
Investigative police executed an arrest warrant against José Antonio “N” for failing to pay child support for two minors. The suspect remains in custody pending further legal proceedings.
The Prosecutor’s Office emphasized its commitment to enforcing legal protections for victims of domestic violence and ensuring compliance with child support obligations.
