Isla Mujeres, Mexico — Municipal President Atenea Gómez Ricalde led the official inauguration of the first edition of the "Isla Open 2025" tennis tournament, an event that sets a precedent for promoting sports on the island, boosting sports tourism, and strengthening the local economy.

A Three-Day Sporting Showcase

The tournament, held over three days, features morning and evening sessions with participants from municipalities including Cancún, Playa del Carmen, and Puerto Morelos.

In her address, Gómez Ricalde emphasized that the "Isla Open 2025" serves as a platform for inspiration, opportunity, and the growth of local talent among island residents. The opening ceremony took place at the Salina Chica neighborhood tennis court, a public space rehabilitated by the current administration as part of ongoing efforts to restore safe and dignified recreational areas for families.

Beyond competition, the event aims to foster development for children and youth on the island. Preliminary matches began on Friday, with the formal inauguration held on Saturday, attended by sports officials and community representatives.

The tournament underscores Isla Mujeres' commitment to revitalizing public spaces and creating opportunities for athletic and economic growth.
