Chetumal Celebrates LGBTIQ+ Heroes in Pride Month Honor

Othón P. Blanco, Quintana Roo — In celebration of Pride Month, Chetumal Mayor Yensunni Martínez presented Ivana Bustamante and Francis Show with the 2025 Othonense LGBTIQ+ Pride Recognition Award for their outstanding altruism and unwavering commitment to advancing human rights for the sexual diversity community.

A Tribute to Advocacy and Visibility

The ceremony highlighted the recipients' long-standing dedication to promoting visibility, respect, and celebration of sexual and gender diversity in the municipality. Mayor Martínez praised their efforts, stating, "I extend my sincerest congratulations to these admirable individuals and reaffirm my commitment to working hand-in-hand with everyone—women, men, and non-binary individuals—to support causes that uplift society and historically marginalized groups."

Martínez also emphasized her administration’s collaboration with Quintana Roo Governor Mara Lezama to strengthen Othón P. Blanco’s transformation into a more inclusive and equitable municipality.

Honoring Trailblazers

The awardees, Helvin Enrique Ucán (known artistically as Ivana Bustamante) and Francisco Isauro Martínez (Francis Show), were recognized for their advocacy and social initiatives. Their work has focused on raising awareness, fostering acceptance, and providing support for the LGBTIQ+ community in Chetumal.

The event underscored the local government’s ongoing efforts to champion diversity and human rights, aligning with broader Pride Month observances across the region.
