Yucatán Hits 1M Visitors in Early 2025, Tourism Booms

Mérida, Mexico — Yucatán recorded more than one million national and international arrivals at Mérida International Airport during the first four months of 2025, signaling a rise in the state’s economic and tourism activity, according to data released by the Ministry of Tourism Development (Sefotur).

Sustained Growth in Visitor Numbers

Between January and April 2025, the state registered 1,239,442 travelers, marking a 3.7% increase compared to the same period in 2024. This upward trend reinforces Yucatán’s position as one of Mexico’s most appealing and well-connected destinations.

Increased Air Connectivity

In May 2025, the average weekly number of available inbound flight seats rose to 44,975, reflecting a 9.4% increase. Domestic flights accounted for 40,657 of these seats, while international flights comprised 4,318.

Mérida International Airport now ranks ninth in total passenger traffic nationwide and seventh in domestic passenger traffic during the reported period.

Expansive Air Network

Yucatán’s robust air connectivity includes 12 domestic routes linking major cities such as Mexico City, Guadalajara, Monterrey, Oaxaca, Puebla, and Veracruz, among others. Additionally, the state offers seven international routes to key destinations, including Miami, Houston, Dallas, Havana, Guatemala, and Toronto—the latter operating seasonally from November to April.

Nine airlines currently serve Mérida International Airport: American Airlines, Aeroméxico, Magnicharters, Mexicana, United, Volaris, Viva Aerobus, Tag Airlines, and WestJet.
