Cancún, Quintana Roo — A dramatic police pursuit unfolded Thursday afternoon across Cancún’s downtown, Hotel Zone, and Puerto Cancún after surveillance cameras at the Security Complex (C5) detected a group of men linked to a violent robbery in Supermanzana 7.
High-Speed Pursuit and Arrests
Authorities reported that a white Chevrolet minivan, carrying at least four suspects connected to a Wednesday robbery, was spotted traveling along Bonampak Avenue. The C5 surveillance team immediately alerted operational units, triggering a joint response from state and municipal police.
After an extensive search, the vehicle was tracked entering the Hotel Zone via Kilometer 0 of Boulevard Kukulcán. Police established a security checkpoint, but the suspects diverted toward the residential area of Puerto Cancún. A state police patrol eventually intercepted the minivan at one of the subdivision’s access points.
The suspects abandoned the vehicle and fled on foot along Boulevard Kukulcán. Two individuals—identified as Ernesto “N,” 22, and Saúl “N,” 31—were apprehended shortly after, while the remaining two escaped into a mangrove area, evading capture.
Ongoing Investigation
The Secretary of Citizen Security confirmed the seizure of the minivan and the arrests, adding that search operations would continue for the remaining suspects. Unofficial reports suggest the detained individuals may be tied to multiple high-profile robberies in the city, potentially implicating them in an organized criminal group.
Tourist police patrols were reinforced in the Hotel Zone and Puerto Cancún, though the two fugitives remain at large.
Authorities urge residents to report any suspicious activity as investigations proceed.
