Cancún, Quintana Roo — Playa del Carmen Mayor Estefanía Mercado reaffirmed her commitment to building a safe and peaceful environment for families in Quintana Roo during her participation in the Second Extraordinary Session 2025 of the State Council for Citizen Security. The meeting, led by Governor Mara Lezama, took place at the C5 Security Complex in Cancún.

National Strategy for Public Safety Unveiled

The session introduced the National Public Safety Strategy 2024–2030, a comprehensive policy promoted by the Mexican government to coordinate efforts across federal, state, and municipal levels. The strategy aims to address the root causes of violence, strengthen the National Guard, and enhance intelligence and operational coordination mechanisms.

Governor Mara Lezama emphasized the importance of collaboration between municipalities, the state, and federal authorities, stating that security and peace require unity, prevention, and strategic planning.

Mayor Estefanía Mercado expressed Playa del Carmen’s full support for the national strategy, highlighting that the municipality has already aligned its efforts with state and federal security initiatives. These efforts include bolstering police forces, crime prevention programs, and operational intelligence.

“From Playa del Carmen, we firmly commit to working hand in hand with the State Government and the Federal Government. Security and peace are built locally, with citizen participation, strategic planning, and a shared vision,” Mercado stated.

Key Components of the Strategy

The National Strategy 2024–2030 outlines four guiding principles, eleven strategic objectives, twenty-one action lines, and seventy-nine specific measures, supported by thirty indicators to track progress.

Mercado assured that Playa del Carmen will continue advancing a citizen security model focused on community engagement, technological innovation, and institutional accountability. This approach aligns with the principles of Mexico’s Fourth Transformation and the vision of peace with justice championed by President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo.

With this meeting, Playa del Carmen reaffirms its role in the peaceful transformation of Quintana Roo and the nation, working tirelessly to restore tranquility and ensure the well-being of all residents.

Playa del Carmen remains a key player in regional security efforts, reinforcing its dedication to a safer future for Quintana Roo.
