Playa del Carmen, Quintana Roo — A routine hotel cleaning procedure turned grim this Saturday afternoon when employees discovered the body of a U.S. citizen in an advanced state of decomposition inside a room at the Grand Fifty Hotel, located on 1st Avenue and 50th Street.

Discovery and Initial Response

Hotel staff attempted to contact the guest as part of standard checkout protocols but received no response. A strong odor emanating from the room prompted them to alert authorities. Members of the Fire Department gained entry through a window and found the deceased foreign national, whose condition indicated he had been dead for several days.

Investigation Underway

Preliminary reports from sources close to the investigation stated the body showed no visible signs of violence. However, an autopsy will be conducted to officially determine the cause of death. Municipal Police cordoned off the area while forensic experts from the Quintana Roo Attorney General’s Office began collecting evidence and opened an investigation file to clarify the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Photographs from the scene documented the authorities’ response, including the presence of investigators and emergency personnel. No further details about the victim’s identity or potential motives have been released.

The case remains under investigation as officials work to determine the events leading to the man’s death.
