Playa del Carmen, Quintana Roo — A 66-year-old man died aboard a Winjet ferry on Tuesday after suffering a medical emergency as the vessel arrived at the fiscal dock in Playa del Carmen shortly before noon.
The incident was reported at approximately 11:50 a.m. when the ferry’s crew contacted emergency services (911) after noticing the passenger was experiencing severe health complications. Initial reports indicate the man had diabetes, and authorities suspect his condition worsened during the maritime crossing.
Despite the rapid response of emergency personnel, paramedics were unable to save the man’s life. He was pronounced dead aboard the vessel before he could be transported to a hospital.
The tragedy occurred on one of Winjet’s orange ferries, causing distress among passengers and bystanders at the dock. Authorities have not yet disclosed the identity or nationality of the deceased.
Personnel from the State Attorney General’s Office (FGE) and forensic experts arrived at the scene to remove the body and transfer it to the Forensic Medical Service (Semefo), where further procedures will be conducted. Investigators continue to examine the circumstances surrounding the death.
