Tulum, Mexico — Mexican actor, entrepreneur, and television personality Roberto Palazuelos, known as El Diamante Negro (“The Black Diamond”), has ventured into the culinary scene with the launch of Tacos Papi, a high-end taqueria in Tulum. This establishment blends traditional Mexican street food with Palazuelos’ signature flair, offering a unique dining experience in the heart of the Riviera Maya.​

A Celebrity’s Foray into Gastronomy

Palazuelos, born on January 31, 1967, in Acapulco, Guerrero, gained fame in the 1990s through roles in popular telenovelas such as Muchachitas, Dos mujeres, un camino, and Amada enemiga. Beyond acting, he has established himself as a successful businessman, owning several hotels in Tulum and other parts of Mexico. His latest venture, Tacos Papi, reflects his passion for Mexican culture and cuisine.​

Tacos Papi: A Blend of Tradition and Luxury

Located at Kilometer 7.5 on the Tulum-Boca Paila Highway, directly across from the Ahau Tulum hotel, Tacos Papi operates daily from 3:00 PM to 2:00 AM. The restaurant’s design features lush vegetation, wooden structures, and ambient lighting, creating a tropical yet upscale atmosphere. Live mariachi performances occasionally enhance the dining experience, adding a festive touch to the setting.​

Culinary Highlights

The menu at Tacos Papi focuses on Mexican street food staples, including tacos al pastor, gringas, and specialty dishes. The standout item is the “Taco Diamante Negro,” a generously sized taco priced at 300 pesos (approximately $15 USD). Other tacos range between 200 and 300 pesos, depending on ingredients. Beverage options include soft drinks and traditional aguas frescas—flavors such as tamarind, horchata, and hibiscus—priced at 60 pesos each. A full meal, including a main dish, drink, and sides, averages around 600 pesos per person.​

Expansion Plans

Following the success of the Tulum location, Palazuelos has announced plans to open a second Tacos Papi in Mexico City. While specific details have not been disclosed, the expansion aims to bring the unique blend of traditional Mexican flavors and celebrity flair to a broader audience.​
