A lack of environmental consciousness among some residents in Tulum has resulted in the creation of an unauthorized landfill on Juanek Avenue. This area, located between the Aldea Zama and 2 de Octubre neighborhoods, is frequently traveled and has become a breeding ground for infection due to unpleasant odors and potential health hazards.
Local residents alerted the City Council to the issue, emphasizing that the amassed waste was not only tarnishing the city's appearance but also posing a health risk to daily commuters. In response to these complaints, the Municipal Public Services dispatched a team to clean up the site.
The cleanup operation involved the removal of solid waste that had been accumulating over several weeks. This was the result of individuals illegally disposing of their garbage in public areas, despite the availability of a waste collection system.
Following the cleanup, local residents expressed their appreciation for the swift action taken by the municipal government. They also recognized the need for increased community awareness to prevent these areas from reverting back to unofficial dumps.
The Directorate of Public Services has reiterated its plea for residents to adhere to collection schedules and refrain from practices that jeopardize public health and the urban environment.
