Dental tourism is gaining traction in popular tourist destinations like Cancún, Quintana Roo. Recognizing the potential of this sector, the state delegation of the Business Confederation of the Mexican Republic (Coparmex) is implementing strategies to further promote this business. Andrés Jurado, the president of the Medical Tourism Commission of the employers' union, stated that there are between 50 to 70 dental clinics in Cancún, primarily catering to patients from the United States and Canada.

Many foreigners seek dental treatments in Cancún because their health insurance in their home countries does not cover such procedures. Cancún has become a leading destination for dental services due to the low risk associated with dental treatments. In many instances, dental tourism serves as an entry point for patients. Once they experience the quality of service, they often become interested in other medical services available, including hospital or surgical care.

One of the key attractions of dental tourism in Cancún is the cost savings, with patients saving up to 70 percent on average. For example, a dental implant in Cancún can cost between one thousand to one thousand two hundred dollars, while the same procedure in the United States can cost between three thousand to four thousand dollars.

Dental and medical tourism have shown resilience, even during the Covid-19 pandemic. Cancún, with its excellent air connectivity and internationally certified clinics, offers distinct advantages for this market. Many clinics have made significant investments in infrastructure and services to cater to this growing interest.

Most dental treatments require two phases, ensuring a longer stay for patients who return to complete their treatment. The average dental treatment requires a stay of 7 to 10 days and costs between 7 thousand to 10 thousand dollars per patient.

In an effort to consolidate Cancún as a leading destination for dental tourism, the Medical Tourism Commission conducted a business round where 12 clinics met with tourist promoters. The goal was to share information about the dental treatments they offer. This initiative seeks to position Cancún as a premier destination in a growing industry that combines top-notch dental treatments with the region's first-class tourism offerings.
