Mayor Ana Paty Peralta recently commended two members of the Cancún Fire Department for their impressive performances in the 2025 American Firefighters Organization (OBA) Cup. The event took place in Guadalajara, Jalisco, and saw participants from all over the Americas and the Caribbean compete in a series of tests designed to assess their skill, strength, and teamwork.
The director of the Cancún Fire Department, Aquileo Cervantes Álvarez, expressed his gratitude to the Mayor for her vital support of the firefighters who represented Cancún in the competition. Erika Guadalupe Bautista Parra and Carlos Mario Lázaro Bautista, members of the Cancún Fire Department, secured second and fourth place respectively in the individual female and male categories.
Their success in this international competition can be attributed to their rigorous physical and mental preparation, as well as their past triumphs in national competitions. The OBA Cup included a variety of challenges such as tower ascents with loads, hose recovery, forced entry, advance with charged attack lines, and victim rescue.
The competition brought together firefighters from eleven countries including Ecuador, Chile, Peru, Paraguay, Argentina, the United States, Canada, and Mexico. This event provided a platform for these firefighters to share their experiences and foster camaraderie within the firefighting community.
The OBA Cup, organized by the largest global organization promoting international cooperation among firefighting institutions, is a unique event. It presents firefighting skills in a sports competition format, acknowledging the invaluable work firefighters do for their communities.
