Bacalar, now 14 years into its journey as a municipality, has firmly established itself as a burgeoning tourist destination. The town has become a hub for job creation and investment, gaining recognition both domestically and internationally, according to municipal president José Alfredo Contreras Méndez. Reflecting on the town's early days, Méndez noted that many were skeptical about its potential for growth. Today, however, the progress is undeniable. Strategic initiatives like the Maya Train, its connection to Tulum Airport, and the recent unveiling of the Ichkabal archaeological site are expected to further stimulate tourism and boost the local economy.

Federal investment in essential infrastructure has been a boon for Bacalar. Over the years, completion of projects like the craft market, the eco park, the baseball stadium, the central park, and the Aserradero spa have enhanced its appeal to tourists and improved the living standards of its residents.

The town's growth has also drawn attention at international events such as the International Tourism Fair (FITUR), where it has piqued the interest of investors and travelers alike. Furthermore, the town's open water marathon, which started with a mere 30 participants, now anticipates over 2,000 swimmers, making it one of the country's most significant aquatic events.

In the upcoming months, Bacalar City Council plans to continue its infrastructure development, with the inauguration of projects like the C2 Command Center, the craft dome, a skate park, and further enhancements to the central park. This underscores the town's commitment to its ongoing development. Bacalar continues to evolve and solidify its reputation as a sustainable tourist destination, offering an increasingly diverse and appealing range of attractions for both national and international visitors.
