Discover Cozumel’s Library with Chacón’s Educational Tours

Over 200 students from eight diverse schools, spanning from kindergarten to high school, have enjoyed a month of educational fun at the Gonzalo de Jesús Rosado Iturralde Municipal Library. This was made possible through the Guided Visits program, promoted by the Cozumel Government under the leadership of José Luis Chacón Méndez and the subdirectorate of Education.

The municipal government continues to bolster Cozumel's educational transformation through various initiatives. Schools participating in the program include Andrés Quintana Roo high school, Miguel Hidalgo, Sara María Rivero Novelo, Eladio Novelo Gil, and Benito Juárez primary schools, as well as Rosaura Zapata, Eva Sámano, and Edna Sánchez de Rosado kindergartens. These students attended the program during the last two weeks of January 2025.

During the guided tours, students receive a brief introduction to the life and work of Gonzalo de Jesús Rosado Iturralde. They also learn about the primary functions of a library and explore the various sections it comprises. Highlights of the program include a "Story Telling" segment, reading circles, and recreational activities in the morning. In the afternoon, students attend a class in the Mayan language.

Those interested in participating in this program can easily schedule a visit for their school at the sub-directorate of Education's office, located within the Municipal Library. The office is open Monday to Friday, from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.
