Highway 307, the main tourist route in the state, is in dire need of repair. The road, which connects Cancun, Playa del Carmen, and Tulum, is severely damaged and poses a significant risk to families, transporters, tourists, and thousands of daily commuters.
The lack of maintenance by the Secretariat of Infrastructure, Communications, and Transport is a clear display of negligence. The numerous potholes and extensive stretches of damage not only present a danger to drivers but also tarnish the image of the region's top tourist destinations.
The poor state of the highway detracts from the significant achievements of the Federal Government, such as the Tulum Airport. The focus on the Maya Train project, which has absorbed a considerable portion of the budget, has led to the neglect of this crucial highway.
According to federal transporter Eugenio de Dios, "The emphasis on the Maya Train has resulted in the total neglect of this highway. This route is as important as the train and generates more mobility. It is vital that it is maintained immediately."
During a recent inspection, the severity of the road's deterioration was evident. Drivers are forced to perform risky maneuvers and make sudden steering adjustments, which could potentially lead to tragic accidents.
Additionally, a section of the road between Playa del Carmen and Puerto Morelos is currently under repair. However, the work remains incomplete, and the temporary signage is barely visible at night, further exacerbating the risk to drivers.
