Tourism industry leaders have voiced concerns over the recent increase in taxes on international travelers. They argue that the lack of clear strategies to promote Mexico as a global destination could be detrimental to the country's tourism sector.
José Chapur, president of the Palace Group, highlighted that the increase in the Non-Resident Right (NRR) and other taxes could potentially make Mexico less competitive compared to other tourist destinations.
Jesús Almaguer Salazar, president of the Cancún Hotel Association, also expressed his worries about the tax impact on both the market and the spending habits of vacationers.
Both Chapur and Salazar are in agreement that current policies need to be more strategically aligned to effectively promote and develop tourism in Mexico.
