Mexico's Secretary of Tourism, Josefina Rodríguez Zamora, and Quintana Roo's Governor, Mara Lezama Espinoza, recently inaugurated the 36th edition of the Cancún Travel Mart. During the event, Grupo Xcaret announced a $700 million investment in its hotel facilities and eco-tourist amusement parks. This project is expected to generate 1,600 direct jobs in its initial phase.
The Cancún Travel Mart is a significant event for promoting and developing tourism in the region. It also contributes to the expansion and strengthening of Mexico's tourist industry. The event was attended by representatives from over 23 countries, including Argentina, Brazil, Canada, China, Colombia, Ireland, Israel, Mexico, Portugal, Spain, Switzerland, Turkey, United Arab Emirates, and the United States.
The event provides an opportunity for participants to establish contacts, close business deals, and promote regional destinations and tourist services in the Mexican Caribbean. Rodríguez Zamora noted that the Cancún Travel Mart is expected to generate around $4.9 billion in sales by 2025, covering all seasons.
The event serves as a business platform that brings together representatives from various sectors of the tourism industry, such as hotels, travel agencies, airlines, and other tourist service providers. These representatives interact with national and international buyers, including tour operators and travel agents.
Rodríguez Zamora emphasized that tourism is a powerful tool that, when directed intelligently and responsibly, can balance economic development with biodiversity conservation and protection. She also highlighted the importance of community tourism, which ensures that the benefits of tourist activities reach all resident communities and indigenous peoples.
The Secretary of Tourism also outlined four priority areas for the current administration: Sustainable Development, Destination Production, Strengthening of Magical Villages, Social Inclusion, and Regional Development. As part of the strategy to promote Mexico abroad, the country will participate in numerous international fairs, including the International Tourism Fair (Fitur) 2025.
