Revolutionizing Public Transport in Tulum with 400 Golf Cart Concessions!

A busy street lined with shops and vehicles including golf carts, scooters, and cars, with people walking and driving under a clear sky.

In a move towards sustainability, the Quintana Roo Mobility Institute (Imoveqroo) in Tulum, Mexico, has approved 400 golf cart concessions to serve as public transportation.

This decision was announced in the Official State Newspaper on August 15, following a mobility impact study conducted by Imoveqroo in June. The study highlighted the city's growing population and the subsequent need for additional transportation options.

The report suggests that golf carts are an "acceptable solution for transporting residents from urban areas to coastal and tourist destinations". The journey involves travel on primary and secondary roads, and golf carts are seen as a more comfortable alternative compared to existing transportation options.

The report also notes that golf carts, with a regulated speed of around 30 kilometers per hour and smaller dimensions than the average vehicle, are a non-invasive choice for users.

According to the study, the introduction of these vehicles will support continuous mobility in the urban area, coastal region, and downtown coastal area. The golf carts can accommodate between two and four people, or up to six passengers including the driver.

Imoveqroo plans to issue public calls for these 400 concessions, classified as a public transportation service renting all types of vehicles. These calls will be published in the Official State Newspaper.
