18 People Disappear in First Half of July in Quintana Roo, Averaging More Than One a Day

Cancun, Quintana Roo — An average of 1.2 people per day have been reported missing in Quintana Roo during the first half of July, according to search alerts issued by the State Prosecutor’s Office. Between July 2 and July 16, 18 people were reported as unlocated, and all remain missing as of Friday.

Cancun accounts for the majority of cases with 14 missing persons, followed by Playa del Carmen with three and Puerto Morelos with one.

Among those reported missing in Cancun are Aarón Ortega Villegas, 37, and Elimber Jiménez Córdova, 68, both last seen on July 4. Two days later, on July 6, Aquiles Hermida Chávez, 29, disappeared.

On July 8, the disappearance of Jesús Delfino Díaz Castrejón, 73, was reported. On July 10, Oscar Alberto Aguilar Matos, 29; Jonathan Pérez Rueda, 24; Ángel Gabriel Vázquez Moreno, 23; and 13-year-old Mishel Berenice Rivero Chan were reported missing.

On July 12, Tomás Reyes Alvarado, 21; Marco Antonio Ramírez Reyes, 20; and Leonardo Manuel Ramos Morales, 18, vanished. The following day, William Montenegeo y Llanes, 78, was reported missing.

Also still missing are Luis Arturo González Jiménez, 31, last seen on July 5, and Luis Zúñiga Sauceda, 25, who disappeared on July 16.

In Playa del Carmen, Iván Roberto Ramírez Zavala, 39, disappeared on July 2; Luis Miguel Garcés Guzmán, 41, has been missing since July 12; and Dayner Correa Escalante, 47, was reported missing on July 14.

In Puerto Morelos, a search alert remains active for Glenda Patricia Barrientos, 54, who disappeared on July 15.

Authorities have kept the search alerts active for all 18 individuals and are urging the public to provide any information that could help locate them through the official channels of the Quintana Roo State Prosecutor’s Office.
