Human Trafficking Victims Rescued in Playa del Carmen

Authorities secure bar where human trafficking victims were rescued in Playa del Carmen

Playa del Carmen, Quintana Roo — The State Attorney General’s Office (FGE) reported that a joint operation led to the rescue of 10 women, alleged victims of human trafficking in the form of third-party prostitution, at a bar located on the federal Cancún-Tulum highway, between Juárez Avenue and 1st South Street in Playa del Carmen.

The action was carried out after a Control Judge authorized a search warrant, which was executed by the FGE in coordination with the Navy Secretariat (Semar) and the National Guard.

Among the protected victims are eight Mexican women, plus one Cuban and one Argentine, who were transported to receive institutional care and protection.

Clients Paid for ‘Check-ins’ and Touching Inside the Establishment

According to initial investigations, the bar operated a sexual exploitation scheme in which clients paid 350 pesos for a beer, an amount that included women sitting with them and allowing sexual touching.

Additionally, it was documented that the establishment charged 3,000 pesos for 30 minutes of sexual relations, of which 60% of the earnings were retained by the business, reinforcing the configuration of the crime of human trafficking for sexual exploitation purposes.

The Bar Was Secured

After concluding the procedure, authorities placed official seals to secure the property, which remained under the custody of the Attorney General’s Office while the corresponding investigation continues.

The ten women were taken to the facilities of the State Attorney General’s Office to guarantee their protection, and the National Migration Institute (INM) was notified due to the situation of the two foreign women.

Authorities reiterated their commitment to combat human trafficking and dismantle networks that violate the integrity of women in Quintana Roo.
