Mérida, Yucatán — The Government of the State of Yucatán, through the Secretariat of Education (SEGEY), honored 93 students for their exceptional performance in the 2025 Mexican Informatics Olympiad. The competition, organized in collaboration with the Autonomous University of Yucatán (UADY), drew over 57,000 participants from across the region.
Ceremony Highlights Academic Excellence
The recognition ceremony took place in the Aula Magna of the Faculty of Mathematics and was led by Education Secretary Juan Enrique Balam Várguez and UADY Rector Carlos Alberto Estrada Pinto. Both officials emphasized the importance of strengthening mathematical and technological skills at primary and secondary education levels to position Yucatán as a leader in high-level academic competitions.
In his remarks, Balam Várguez praised the students' dedication and the commitment of educators who nurture young talent in fields critical to the state's scientific and technological development. Rector Estrada Pinto underscored the Faculty of Mathematics' pivotal role in promoting exact sciences, highlighting ongoing teacher training programs to enhance educational quality and foster student interest in informatics.
"Education in technology and mathematics is essential for the state's progress, and at UADY, we remain committed to providing solid training in these areas," Estrada Pinto stated.
Expanding Participation and Preparing for Nationals
The 2025 state phase of the Mexican Informatics Olympiad marked a milestone by including students from fourth, fifth, and sixth grades of primary school, as well as secondary and high school levels. Following rigorous evaluation, 93 students were selected and are now undergoing specialized training to form the Yucatán delegation for the national competition. Their preparation aims to equip them for potential representation in international events.
These efforts align with the Maya Renaissance Government's commitment, under the leadership of Joaquín Díaz Mena, to support the talent, creativity, and ingenuity of children, adolescents, and youth by strengthening their education in strategic areas for the state's scientific and technological advancement.
