Two officers from the Yucatan Public Security Secretariat (SSP) were observed using slingshots to apprehend alleged thieves in an unusual operation that has been widely discussed on social media. The arrest took place in the fishing municipality of Celestún.
The incident occurred after local and state police received a report of theft in the city center. They promptly initiated a search for the suspects. Two officers positioned themselves at the bottom of the site and used slingshots to hurl stones at the suspects as a distraction. Meanwhile, other officers climbed up to apprehend them.
The unusual operation was successful. Three officers managed to arrest a suspect who was hiding at the highest point of the site. The moment when the two officers used the slingshot to facilitate the arrest was captured on video and shared on social media. The footage shows two officers using a slingshot to throw stones at the suspects.
The peculiar method of apprehension caused amusement in the Celestún community. Following their arrest, the suspects were transported to the local jail to face charges.
