Mérida, Yucatán — Following days of intensive search efforts and public protests by her mother, Ericka Contreras Pérez, authorities in Yucatán successfully located six-year-old Lucía E. C. on Sunday. The State Public Security Secretariat (SSP) confirmed the recovery of the child, who had been the subject of an Amber Alert issued on June 8.
Coordinated Operation Leads to Recovery
The girl was found through a joint operation conducted by the Yucatán State Police and the State Attorney General’s Office.
“After several days of investigative work by the SSP’s MiD4 State Intelligence Center, the minor was located and transferred to the Specialized Unit for the Prevention of Family and Gender Violence (UNIPREV). She was then escorted by State Investigation Police (PEI) agents to the State Attorney General’s Office (FGE) for legal proceedings,” the agency stated.
Father Detained, Preventive Prison Ordered
Lucía’s father, Mauricio E.E.P., had previously been arrested for refusing to return the child to her mother despite court orders mandating her restitution. He was formally charged with forced disappearance, and a judge ordered preventive detention as a precautionary measure.
Although Mauricio was apprehended at his private residence, Lucía was not with him at the time, prompting authorities to escalate search operations. Details regarding her exact location and the individuals she was with prior to her recovery were not initially disclosed.
Mother’s 11-Month Struggle Ends
The resolution marks the culmination of an 11-month legal battle by Ericka Contreras, who has accused Mauricio of vicarious violence. She filed multiple criminal complaints and staged protests, including a 12-hour sit-in at a courtroom and demonstrations outside the Government Palace, to pressure authorities into locating her daughter.
Lucía is now set to reunite with her mother after the prolonged ordeal.
