Uncover the Exotic Flavors of Yucatan Cuisine

The Yucatan Gastronomic Federation is on a mission to promote Yucatecan cuisine on an international scale. Recently, they embarked on a promotional tour in Brazil, showcasing the unique dishes, culture, and attractions of the Mayan region. The aim is not only to promote the state's food but also to open up business opportunities across various sectors.

Carlos Guillermo Aguirre Aguilar, the president of the Yucatan Gastronomic Federation, met with the Consul General of Mexico in São Paulo, Raúl Bolaños-Cacho Guzmán. Together, they identified potential opportunities for Yucatecan businesses in the agri-food sector, restaurants, and travel agencies.

Aguilar emphasized the significance of Brazil in Mexico's bilateral relations, highlighting its potential as a market to promote Yucatán. The region offers a rich cultural experience, steeped in tradition, and is home to a welcoming community. The Federation aims to boost tourism in the region through its gastronomy, enticing visitors with the delicious flavors of Yucatecan dishes set against the backdrop of its natural beauty and historical sites.

However, the meeting also revealed a decrease in Brazilian visitors to Mexico, dropping from the 5th highest volume of visitors to the 11th. This decline was attributed to the imposition of a Mexican visa for Brazilian travelers. Aguirre Aguilar noted, "Before the visa requirement, we had around 500,000 Brazilian visitors annually. Now, we barely exceed 300,000 per year, which has impacted Mexico's tourism industry."

Despite this, Aguirre Aguilar remains optimistic about the potential of Brazilian tourism. He pointed out the geographical advantages of Yucatan, with its proximity to international airports in Tulum and Cancun, and the Maya Train providing a comfortable journey for tourists.

The Yucatan Gastronomic Federation is committed to capturing the South American market, using Yucatecan cuisine as a powerful cultural attraction to draw in visitors.
