Progreso, Yucatan — The 11th edition of the Yucatan Beach Soccer Cup kicks off this Saturday at the Malecón Internacional de Progreso, organizers announced.
From April 4 to 10, more than 70 teams will compete, bringing together approximately 1,200 athletes for a major gathering during the Easter holiday week.
Teams from Quintana Roo will include representatives from Playa del Carmen and Isla Mujeres. Campeche will have participants from Calkiní and the state capital, while Yucatan will field 20 teams from Mérida and the municipalities of Cacalchén, Kanasín, Tixkokob, Ixil, and host city Progreso.
Franco Rosello Astol, organizer of the traditional competition, said the tournament will feature 12 categories in youth divisions, with female participation in both, and a team from the United States that attends annually.
Teams will consist of a minimum of 7 players and a maximum of 12, with groups of four teams in all categories. Matches will feature five players on the field, including the goalkeeper. Trophies and medals will be awarded to the top four places, the top scorer, and the goalkeeper with the fewest goals allowed, ensuring at least five matches per team.
