Mexico City — Ticket prices for the 2026 FIFA World Cup have skyrocketed on the organization’s official resale platform, with some matches seeing costs rise up to seven times their original face value.

The FIFA Ticket Exchange, which opened after the initial sales phase closed in January, reflects intense demand for the tournament being hosted across the United States, Canada, and Mexico. In several high-profile matches, resale prices far exceed initial costs.

Notable Price Increases

  • Mexico vs. South Africa (June 11, Mexico City): A Category 3 ticket originally priced at $895 is listed for resale at $5,324.
  • France vs. Senegal (June 16, New Jersey): A ticket that cost $219 is now priced at $1,000.
  • Brazil vs. Morocco (June 13): The price has jumped from $620 to $1,725.
  • The Final (July 19): A Category 1 ticket, originally $7,875, is listed at nearly $20,000.

Not all tickets have increased in value. For example, tickets for Austria vs. Jordan have dropped from $620 to $552.

FIFA’s Role

FIFA clarified that it acts only as an intermediary on the platform, charging a 15% commission while allowing resellers to set their own prices. The organization defended the model as a response to market demand in North America.

Ticket resale regulations vary by host country. In the United States and Canada, the practice is largely unregulated, while in Mexico, reselling tickets for profit is prohibited under certain conditions.

A final sales phase will open between April and the tournament’s start in June 2026.
