Mérida, Yucatán — With the goal of strengthening democracy and guaranteeing the equitable participation of women in political life, the workshop "Political Rights: Let's Eradicate Political Violence Against Women" was held. The event served as a space for reflection and collective learning, bringing together women and men from different sectors.
During the session, the most frequent manifestations of gender-based political violence were addressed, and effective strategies to combat it were shared. Through participatory dynamics, case analysis, and testimonies, participants were able to highlight how this violence limits female political participation and, consequently, the quality of democracy.
The facilitator, Alina Herrera Fuentes from the National Institute of Political Training, shared legal, social, and cultural tools to promote safer, more inclusive, and respectful political environments.
The workshop had the support of the Morena Yucatán State Executive Committee, led by Bárbara Díaz, Secretary of Women; Dr. Carlos Bojórquez Urzaiz, President of the CEE; Julio Ytza, Secretary of Organization; Nayely Balam, Secretary of Political Training; Raquel Can Montiel, Secretary of Communication, Dissemination and Propaganda; Armando Barroso, Secretary of Finance; and Fidel Chong Espinoza, Secretary of Youth.
During his address, the president of the CEE emphasized the importance of replicating these workshops throughout the state so that more women can fully exercise their political rights without fear or violence.
The workshop concluded with a call to action: to continue sharing experiences, generate citizen awareness, and strengthen a culture of equality. Morena Yucatán reaffirmed its commitment to a future where women can exercise their leadership and voice without restrictions, thereby consolidating an equitable and participatory democracy.
