Riviera Maya, Quintana Roo — The lack of security in the Expo Maya area has left workers in Riviera Maya vulnerable to constant robberies, including a recent case involving a disabled young man whose motorcycle was stolen.
A Growing Problem for Commuters
Workers in Riviera Maya are forced to leave their vehicles—including cars, motorcycles, and even human-powered transport—parked near Expo Maya while they board company transport to their workplaces. These vehicles remain unattended for over ten hours, providing ample opportunity for thieves to strike.
One recent victim, a disabled worker, shared his ordeal on social media. With a voice trembling from frustration, he recounted how his motorcycle—purchased through great effort—was stolen after he parked it near Expo Maya.
“The day my motorcycle was stolen, I had agreed to work overtime, so I returned to the city much later than usual,” he said. Upon arriving back, he discovered his motorcycle was gone, leaving him at a severe disadvantage due to his mobility challenges.
No Security in Sight
The area lacks any form of surveillance, making it an easy target for criminals. Workers have no choice but to leave their vehicles unattended for extended periods, knowing they are at risk.
The victim’s case highlights a broader issue affecting hundreds of workers who rely on this parking area daily. Without intervention, thefts are likely to continue unchecked.
