Cancún Hitwoman Killed Cop Since Age 20: FGE

Cancún, Mexico — The woman who cold-bloodedly murdered a municipal police officer in Cancún while he was taking his son to school has been identified as a hitwoman since the age of 20, confirmed Quintana Roo Attorney General Raciel López Salazar.

The suspect, identified as Yolanda Berenice "N," 24, originally from Yucatán, has been formally charged with aggravated homicide. The crime occurred on June 16 in the Supermanzana 107 neighborhood of Paraíso Maya, where the victim, a 45-year-old officer named Víctor, was intercepted by the assailant while walking with his son to school.

Details of the Attack

The child, whose age was not specified, suffered a minor grazing bullet wound and has since been discharged from medical care without further complications.

"This young woman has been involved in contract killings since she was 20 years old. She was recruited by a criminal group and is linked to at least three other homicides," stated López Salazar during a press briefing on Monday.

The Attorney General added that authorities possess video evidence, provided by state police, showing the same woman executing another individual. "We are currently analyzing this material as part of the ongoing investigation," he said.

The attack took place on Cenote Sagrado Street, between Arrecife and Mantén Chi, where residents reported multiple gunshots in broad daylight. The suspect was apprehended shortly after the incident.

The Public Prosecutor's Office presented sufficient evidence for a judge to order her pretrial detention, with preventive imprisonment imposed for up to two years or the duration of the criminal proceedings. She will remain incarcerated in a state penitentiary while awaiting trial.

Background and Criminal Ties

López Salazar emphasized that the suspect's involvement in organized crime extends beyond this incident, with her alleged participation in multiple killings under the direction of a criminal syndicate. Authorities continue to investigate her connections to other violent acts in the region.

The case has drawn attention to the persistent issue of cartel-related violence in Quintana Roo, particularly in Cancún, where organized crime groups frequently target law enforcement and civilians.
