Paramedics providing medical attention to a woman at the scene of a shooting in Cancún

Cancún, Mexico — A woman working as a windshield cleaner was shot early Wednesday morning at a traffic light intersection in Cancún’s Tierra Maya neighborhood, authorities reported.

The attack occurred around dawn at the intersection of Lak’in Avenue and Francisco I. Madero Street, near superblock 105. According to initial reports, armed individuals on a motorcycle approached the location, opened fire on the woman, and then fled in an unknown direction.

The shooting caused panic among drivers and pedestrians in the area at the time.

Despite being wounded, the woman managed to get up and run several meters to seek shelter in a nearby location, where she called for help. Civil protection paramedics arrived minutes later and provided emergency medical care at the scene. They stabilized her before transporting her urgently to Cancún General Hospital, where she was admitted for observation. Her current condition remains unknown.

Police officers responded to the intersection after receiving an emergency call. The officers conducted an inspection to verify what happened and gather information. However, after the woman was taken to the hospital, authorities left the area because they did not find spent shell casings or other ballistic evidence at the site.

Witnesses said the attackers escaped quickly, taking advantage of traffic and the lack of police presence at that moment. No arrests have been reported, and officials have not released information about a possible motive for the attack.
