Playa del Carmen, Quintana Roo — A woman found dead in Playa del Carmen had prior criminal charges, authorities confirmed. The victim, identified as 33-year-old Yuliana del Carmen "N," originally from Chiapas, was discovered with visible signs of violence on the night of April 20 in a residence within the Palmas Turquesa neighborhood.
Prior Arrest for Drug Possession
Local officials revealed that the victim had previously been detained with 54 doses of narcotics, leading to her arrest by the Municipal Secretariat of Citizen Security (SSCM). She was processed by the Specialized Prosecutor’s Office for Crimes Against Health in the modality of small-scale drug dealing.
Authorities have not yet determined whether her death was linked to her criminal activities or if it constituted a femicide. Preliminary reports from acquaintances suggested her last known interaction was with her romantic partner, who remains at large.
Possible Motives Under Investigation
Sources close to the case indicated that the manner of her killing suggests a possible act of retaliation by a rival criminal group. However, the Quintana Roo Attorney General’s Office (FGE) will determine the primary line of investigation after gathering sufficient evidence.
Records show that Yuliana del Carmen "N" was arrested on April 20 in the Villas del Sol neighborhood after being found with concealed marijuana doses. She was released shortly before her murder.
The investigation remains ongoing as authorities work to identify suspects and establish a definitive motive.
