Playa del Carmen, Quintana Roo — A woman was injured after being struck by a taxi in the Centro neighborhood of this popular tourist destination.
According to initial reports, taxi number 2898 was traveling on 1 Sur Street and attempted to merge onto 30th Avenue heading south when the driver failed to notice a woman crossing the road while pulling a travel suitcase.
Witnesses said the driver made the maneuver without proper caution, causing the vehicle to hit the pedestrian. The impact knocked the woman to the pavement, where she suffered a leg injury that required emergency response.
Paramedics arrived at the scene in an ambulance and provided first aid to the injured woman. She was then transported to a hospital for medical evaluation and specialized care. Authorities report she is currently stable but will remain under observation to rule out more serious injuries.
Municipal traffic officers responded to conduct the corresponding investigation and determine responsibility. Traffic in the area was partially affected for several minutes while officials gathered information for the official report.
Investigators later ordered the driver detained and the vehicle impounded. The case will be referred to the State Prosecutor’s Office, which will determine the taxi driver’s legal situation based on the investigation findings.
