Woman Hospitalized After Rattlesnake Bite Inside Her Home in Yucatán

A rattlesnake bite incident at a home in Cabichén, Yucatán

Cabichén, Yucatán — A woman was rushed to hospital after a rattlesnake bit her inside her home in the rural community of Cabichén, prompting an emergency response from local authorities.

Police officers and a paramedic responded to reports of a snake bite around 8:50 p.m. on Monday. At the scene, José Emilio C. P., 47, told authorities his 55-year-old wife, María Wilma del Rosario P. C., had been bitten when she entered their kitchen.

“She didn’t notice the reptile until she felt intense pain in her right foot, where it bit her,” José said. “She screamed my name and I immediately went to help her. After assisting her, I quickly called emergency services because I realized the snake was venomous.”

The paramedic assessed the woman and found significant swelling in her limb. Officers from the Public Security Department arrived with an ambulance and transported her to Hospital General San Carlos for antivenom treatment.

Authorities urged residents to exercise caution, particularly in rural areas, as warmer weather increases wildlife activity. “We recommend people thoroughly check their homes and be careful when moving objects, as dangerous animals could be hiding underneath,” officials said.
