Taxi driver injured in Cancún fare dispute

Taxi driver with forehead injury after being struck with mayonnaise jar in Cancún

Cancún, Quintana Roo — A taxi driver sustained a significant forehead injury after being struck by a female passenger who allegedly refused to pay for a transportation service in the Villas Otoch Paraíso subdivision.

Initial reports indicated the taxi driver stopped his vehicle in front of a fish market and a car wash on Avenida Orquídeas, also known as part of Avenida Miguel Hidalgo, where he had an argument with a passenger who apparently did not want to pay for the transport service.

During the altercation, the taxi driver received a strong blow to the forehead delivered with a mayonnaise jar, causing a considerable wound.

Several people assisted the taxi driver and detained the aggressor, who called for help claiming she was being deprived of her liberty.

The report of an assault and an alleged case of deprivation of liberty prompted the mobilization of several State Police patrols to the area.

Red Cross paramedics provided first aid to the taxi driver and transported him to the General Hospital, while the woman was placed in a State Police patrol car as a detainee.
