Playa del Carmen, Quintana Roo — María Fernanda N, the wife of Rodrigo N, known as "Lord Cobarde," has paid six million pesos to Roberto González, the victim of a 2017 assault that left him with severe disabilities. In addition to the financial compensation, María Fernanda N was sentenced to over three years in prison for her role in the attack.
Sentencing and Reparations
According to the Quintana Roo Prosecutor’s Office, María Fernanda N was ordered to pay reparations to González as part of her sentencing. The funds were deposited into the victim’s account on November 28, 2024.
"María Fernanda N was also sentenced to pay reparations to the victim in the amount of six million pesos, a sum that has already been deposited into the victim’s account," the Quintana Roo Prosecutor’s Office stated in an official release.
Meanwhile, Rodrigo N, referred to as "Lord Cobarde," has filed a direct amparo appeal in an attempt to overturn his conviction. The appeal has been submitted to the magistrates of the First Collegiate Court of Circuit, who have yet to rule on its admissibility.
The 2017 Assault
The incident occurred in January 2017 during a neighborhood dispute in the La Joya subdivision, south of Playa del Carmen. Both Rodrigo N and María Fernanda N were involved in the altercation with González, which resulted in the victim sustaining life-altering injuries.
While María Fernanda N has already been sentenced, Rodrigo N’s legal battle continues as he seeks to reverse the ruling issued by the Playa del Carmen Trial Court.
"Against this sentence, Rodrigo N filed a direct amparo appeal, which is being closely monitored to confirm the ruling and enforce the imposed penalty, including the demand for reparations to the victim," the Prosecutor’s Office stated.
To date, Roberto González has not publicly commented on his aggressor’s appeal.
