Playa del Carmen, Quintana Roo — During visiting hours at the Playa del Carmen Municipal Detention Center, a shooting attack occurred against the facade of the building, according to the municipal government through the Secretariat of Citizen Security.

According to the official report, a vehicle stopped in front of the center and fired multiple shots, resulting in the deaths of a woman and a minor who were in the vicinity of the location.

It emerged that the victims had reportedly gone to visit an inmate.

Following the events, Preventive Police officers immediately activated response protocols, leading to a pursuit and the detention of one person, as well as the seizure of a firearm allegedly related to the attack.

The detained person and the weapon were placed at the disposal of the Quintana Roo State Attorney General’s Office, the authority conducting the proceedings and investigations to clarify the events and determine responsibilities.

Unofficially, it was indicated that the deceased woman would be the wife of an alleged leader of a criminal group held at the center, a version that has not been officially confirmed by authorities.

The Playa del Carmen Government deeply regretted what happened and expressed its solidarity with the victims’ families, reiterating that operational actions and institutional presence will be reinforced to safeguard peace and order in the municipality, without yielding a single step to crime.
