Playa del Carmen — A white-tailed deer was rescued this Saturday after being seen wandering disoriented on Benito Juárez Avenue in Playa del Carmen. The specimen was transported to a secure natural area, where it was able to be adequately reintegrated into its habitat.
Operation Led by Environmental Authorities
The operation was led by the Secretary of Sustainable Environment and Climate Change, headed by Samantha Álvarez Hernández, along with the Directorate of Normativity and Environmental Impact Assessment, directed by Orlando García. The effort was coordinated with Civil Protection, the Federal Attorney for Environmental Protection (PROFEPA), and with specialized support from Monkey Akumal.
Authorities reported that the well-being of the specimen was prioritized at all times, resulting in its secure capture without injury. Subsequently, the deer was transported and relocated to a secure natural area, where it was able to be adequately reintegrated into its habitat.
Public Urged to Report Sightings for Rescue
The incident generated astonishment among passersby, as it is a wild species uncommon in urban settings. This case also highlighted the proximity of Playa del Carmen to natural ecosystems that are home to diverse species.
With this rescue, the agencies reiterated their commitment to the protection of wildlife and called on the population to immediately report any sightings of animals in the city. The goal is to guarantee the safety of both citizens and the specimens, which should remain in their natural environment.
