QUINTANA ROO, Mexico — The verification operation conducted by the Secretariat of Labor and Social Welfare (STyPS) to ensure compliance with profit-sharing payments to employees is in its final stage in Quintana Roo. The operation aims to confirm that more than 22,000 companies have carried out the mandated distribution of profits to their workers.

According to the Undersecretary for the Northern Zone, José Francisco Trujillo Brandi, approximately 25 complaints have been received so far for alleged non-compliance with this obligation. The employers named in these complaints have been granted a five-business-day period to submit supporting documentation. This documentation is being reviewed by the inspections department before a determination is made to either close the procedure or refer the matter to the legal channel for the application of sanctions.

The official stated that the program involves the review of roughly 800 companies across the state, of which more than 700 have already been inspected. It was emphasized that in Quintana Roo, the majority of formally constituted employers comply with the distribution of profits. Therefore, very few companies are detected failing to make the corresponding payments; in 2024, only between 10 and 12 companies did not meet their obligations, and they are currently in the sanctioning process.

Finally, the undersecretary indicated that the final results are expected to be presented by mid or late September. The department reiterated that workers who believe they have not received their profit-sharing payments can approach the Secretariat for advice and to file a complaint, to ensure their rights are respected.
