United States — The U.S. Department of War has threatened to “act decisively” against “narcoterrorist” organizations across the American continent, including Mexico, if criminal organizations are not weakened.
Through the 2026 National Defense Strategy, published this Thursday, it acknowledged that the primary priority of the Armed Forces is to defend its national territory and, for this purpose, it will defend U.S. interests throughout the Western Hemisphere.
In the document, the Department of War stated that, if its partners cannot or do not fulfill their part, it will conduct the same military operations that were applied during the operation of January 3, 2026, where Nicolás Maduro and his wife Cilia Flores were captured in Venezuela.
Regarding drug trafficking, the department noted that security threats at the borders “must be confronted more deeply” on the continent. To this end, it commits to supporting its partners and developing capabilities to dismantle criminal groups.
“However, if our partners cannot or do not fulfill their part, we will be prepared to act decisively on our own, as demonstrated by the Joint Force in Operation ‘Absolute Resolve’,” warns the document.
The department highlighted the importance of border security for the United States and specified that it will prioritize “efforts to seal its borders,” halting migration in coordination with the Department of Homeland Security (DHS).
According to the Department of War, Canada and Mexico “have solid roles in the defense” of the hemisphere, among these is collaboration with U.S. agencies to prevent migration and drug trafficking at their borders with the United States.
“U.S. partners throughout the Western Hemisphere can do much more to help combat irregular migration, weaken ‘narcoterrorists,’ and prevent U.S. adversaries from controlling or exerting undue influence over strategic areas, especially Greenland, the Gulf of Mexico, and the Panama Canal,” says the National Defense Strategy.
Last Tuesday, Donald Trump warned in a press conference that attacks against drug cartels “will begin very soon.”
“Now, very soon, we are going to attack the drugs that come by land. We know exactly where they come from,” warned Trump.
