University officials announce a 5K race and walk in Chetumal to celebrate the 26th anniversary of University Vizcaya de las Américas.

Chetumal, Quintana Roo — University Vizcaya de las Américas has announced a 5-kilometer race and walk to celebrate its 26th anniversary, marking the first such event in Chetumal where the institution has operated for 13 years.

University officials made the announcement on Wednesday, with the race scheduled for March 28 along the Boulevard Bahía de Chetumal. The event will feature a 5K run for athletes and a 3K walk for participants.

General Director Fernando Pacheco Bailón, who led the announcement alongside Admissions Coordinator Linett Estefanía Azueta Pech and race organizer Rafael Rivero Aburto, said registration fees will be 300 pesos for students, alumni, and university staff, while external participants will pay 100 pesos more.

Proceeds will cover expenses including shirts, logistics, and hydration for participants. Pacheco Bailón noted they expect at least 100 participants but anticipate more due to invitations to local running clubs and extensive promotion. Late registrations will be accepted until the day before the event.

The university, which offers programs in Architecture, Accounting, Criminology, Education Sciences, Law, Gastronomy, Nutrition, and Psychology, has established itself nationally over its 26-year history as an option for aspiring professionals and public sector workers with high school diplomas.
