Cancún, Mexico — Two individuals who were traveling at excessive speed in a Suburban were detained tonight by agents from the State Attorney General’s Office at Cancún International Airport.
The detention occurred around 8 p.m. near Terminal 2, between gates 7 and 8 of this airport terminal.
According to preliminary information, the subjects were being followed by agents from downtown Cancún and were intercepted at the airport.
During the detention, no armed confrontation or altercation with authorities was reported.
On social media, a version circulated indicating that singer Alfredo Olivas, who is scheduled to perform a concert tonight at the Cancún Bullring, had been shot at, but this information was unofficially denied by the State Attorney General’s Office.
Through a statement, the State Attorney General’s Office confirmed the detention of these two individuals, from whom a firearm was seized.
“The detainees, as well as the secured evidence, were placed at the disposal of the competent authority, who will determine their legal status in accordance with the law,” the statement concluded.
The suspects were taken to the State Attorney General’s Office on Huayacan Avenue.
