Cancún Fentanyl Bust: 10-Year Sentences Handed Down

An empty prison cell featuring a barred door, a concrete bench, and a stripped mattress on a metal frame. The walls are grimy with visible wear and tear.

Cancún, Mexico — The Attorney General's Office of the Republic, through the Specialized Prosecutor's Office for Organized Crime, obtained a guilty verdict against Manuel "H" and Lester "M" for their responsibility in crimes against health for possession of fentanyl with intent to sell and possession of firearms for the exclusive use of the Army, Navy, and Air Force.

According to the case background, in 2023, elements of the Federal Ministerial Police, assigned to the Criminal Investigation Agency and the National Guard, executed a search warrant at a property in Cancún, Quintana Roo. The now-sentenced individuals were detained at the location. Authorities seized 600 fentanyl tablets, a supplied short firearm, six mobile phones, and a van.

Subsequently, the Federal Public Prosecutor's Office presented the evidence, leading a District Judge specialized in the Accusatory Penal System in that city to decree a sentence of 10 years, seven months, and 15 days of prison for each of them. They are serving this sentence at the Social Reintegration Center in Cancún, in the same state.
